This image of the Holy Family hangs on the entry wall in Fr. Dave Denny’s hermitage. It reminds us that Egyptian, or Coptic, Christians have a deep devotion to the Holy Family, who sought shelter in Egypt during Jesus’ infancy. Painted in flat tempera-like colors on a small sheet of gold-fibered papyrus, the Arabic caption announces “the entry of Our Lord into Egypt with his mother and Joseph the carpenter.”
